Definition
MSI is the DeepAffex Cloud's estimate of the subject's Mental Stress. It is
a proprietary score that quantifies the user's mental stress level on a 5-point
scale, from relaxed (Level 1) to overloaded (Level 5). It is based on heart rate
variability (the subtle variations in timing between one heartbeat and the
next), which is related to mental stress.
Background
Mental Stress is the change in the internal homeostasis caused by a psychological, physiological, or environmental stressor. Stimuli that cause stress result in the activation of sympathetic nervous system rendering a chain of physiological changes.
