Definition
Sleep Quality Index is the DeepAffex Cloud's proprietary measure of the subject's Sleep Quality that quantifies the user's Sleep Quality level on a 5-point scale, from poor sleep quality (Level 1) to excellent sleep quality (Level 5).
Background
Sleep Quality Index is based on heart rate variability (HRV) features, specifically SDNN (standard deviation of NN intervals) and pNN50 (percentage of successive NN intervals that differ by more than 50ms), which are well-established indicators of autonomic nervous system activity and its role in sleep regulation. In conjunction with HRV, the Sleep Quality Index incorporates heart rate and blood pressure measurements, both of which are significantly influenced by sleep stages and overall sleep quality. By combining these parameters, the Sleep Quality Index offers a reflection of an individual’s sleep, building upon existing research demonstrating strong correlations between these physiological features and various aspects of sleep quality.
